At the quite minimum, the cylinder head must be eradicated combined with the old gasket. Then the cylinder head and cylinder block mating surfaces needs to be carefully cleaned just before a new gasket plus the cylinder head could be refitted. It’s also advisable to flush the coolant procedure to eliminate any gunge that would lead to a blockage.
